Israel at 60

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. Temple Micah will be observing this special year through a variety of programs and activities.

Sunday Morning Speakers Series- "Israel in the Mind of American Jews"

  • October 7- Alvin Rosenfeld, professor of Jewish Studies, Indiana University, author of "Progressive Jewish Thought and the New Anti-Semitism" available on the American Jewish Committee website (AJC.org)
  • December 15- Dennis Ross, Ziegler Distinguished Fellow Washington Institute for Near East Policy and former special Middle East coordinator for President Clinton
  • January 27- Jeffery Goldberg, staff writer at the New Yorker, author of Prisoners: A Muslim and a Jew Across the Middle East Divide
  • April 13- David Harris, Executive Director of the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC)– a project of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, that is committed to promoting Israel education and advocacy on the American college campus.

These speakers are all at 11:15 at the temple

Many other programs and activities are being planned for the year

  • November 4 and February 3: we are planning follow up discussions on the presentations of Alvin Rosenfeld and Jeffrey Goldberg.
  • Friday evening, January 11: Israel oriented Shabbat Shalom Around Town
  • Saturday evening February 9: 7:30 pm: Israeli Wine Tasting.  Please use online sign up form to register.
  • Sunday May 4: 12:00 pm:  Israel Fair and Israel Independence Day Celebration
  • Friday evening May 9:   Special Yom Ha-atzmaut Shabbat Service
